Oh For the Love of Country!!
... something bewildering has happened while i've been away. over the course of the past few months, i've realized that i'm not who i thought it was. i don't know if i was in denial before, lying to myself and to my friends and family. all i know is that huge burden of weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
i'll just cut to the chase ...
... *deep breath* ... this is a hard admission to make.
...
i've recently ... come out of the country-music-lovin'-closet. apparently 1 in 10 people are country-music-closeters, but i am proud to say that i've busted out with a vengence!
... wow, i now feel so much better.
it's like my eyes are still getting adjusted to the world as i thought i knew it now that i'm out, but let me tell you -- i haven't experienced such freedom in a while. it's like i'm now living in a world of technicolour, where as before, it was just a world of plain ol' colour (inhabited by the michael w. smiths, the 50 cents, the britneys of this world). i don't think you'd understand if you yourself have not yet come out.
it's a difficult thing to admit. i know that this was partially a choice, but maybe i was just born loving country music. i don't know. but don't hate me! i'm still the same person, except now i will probably try to make you join my ranks by forcing us to listen to the shanias, the john denvers, and the garths of country-land. i'm looking forward to roadtrips again, haha.
i'm here and just cause i like country doesn't mean i'm some redneck drinking beer! but i do love me some mr. alan jackson. i bought his cd a few days ago, and that's actually the moment when it dawned on me: i am a country lover.
look at this guy! only a guy completely comfortable in his machoness could pull off the following looks:

admit it guys and gals. alan is the epitome of cool. anyone who can pull off a jean jacket with leather fringe knows they're awesome.
i think i'm on the verge of man crushing.
although i'm still pretty new to the country scene (i'm looking to get further exposed in the coming months and years), i've compiled a list of my my top five favourite country songs at the moment:
1. right on the money - alan jackson
2. country roads - john denver (an asian favourite, oddly enough)
3. remember when - alan jackson (described as 'the height of sappification' by one friend)
4. bless the broken road - rascal flatts (again, sap)
5. any man of mine - shania twain (back in the days when shania was still country. actually, i'm really embarassed about this one. really. embarassed.)
well, there you have it folks. i'm out.
i hope someday you'll join us. and the country world can live as one.
DLu.
PS: I'm not actually coming home yet. that was an april fool's joke gone horribly awry. i bet some of you wish this one were the april fool's joke eh? haha.

haha, hey Yiyi, i didn't know you had a blog ... sort of. hahaha.
hey, so i was thinking about this azns-liking-country thing. i think there are two possible root causes:
1) it's a subconcious rebellion against strict eastern upbringings, resorting to the whitest of music. i feel like liking country music is a standard measure of how "white" one is. what do u think?
2) we're getting old (hence you love of knitting). we can't take the beats anymore, so we resort to the country "weeeoooooooooo" thing that is predominant in so many country songs. i'm not sure what that sound/instrument is called, but i'm sure all you country lovers know what i'm talking about.

i too have had a recent country music epiphany. i was in the car with my uncle who was BLARING alan jackson and i found myself actually enjoying country music. now, maybe alan jackson is just an exception, but i was fully listening to his songs and humming along. i even went as far as to think, "i wonder what cd this is". i wasn't sure what to make of my behaviour...it contradicts so much of what i thought i knew about myself. oh well, i have now discovered that when it comes to country music, it may not be so bad after all.

How did you survive for so long as a closet country fan? You are from the P-dot...that's about as Canadian redneck as you can get before hitting Alberta! (some exceptions given for the small communities like Marmora which are outside of the P-dot and have an average of 2 broken down firebirds per frontlawn) I mean, with Country 105 stickers on the back of every beaten up old chevy out there and the Friday night county dances, how are you only now realizing this???

To Lydia,
I wasn't saying that everyone in Alberta was a redneck, just that it probably has the largest proportion of rednecks in Canada. I have a great friend there who is definitely not redneck. I'm in Kansas though...I don't think any place in Canada can hold a candle to this, and I hear that Texas is even worse!

um, definitly apologies on the last post andrea. should've had better judgement for sure. tell your mom and aunt sorry too -- should've known people would take that seriously.
but i don't apologize for the country! don't knock it till u try it. i heard at "the farming university of Canada," there're lots of line dancing places to visit. i'm hoping to pay a visit sometime to really solidify my love of the country. this morning i woke up with a country song in my head. sooo good.
hey, does anyone know if the last American Idol, Carrie Underwood, is actually any good? How about Garth? i know he's famours, but is he really as good as they say?
(clarification: i don't actually like GAMES per se; but i do like team building activities. hah)

woah, y'all an angry bunch.
it's probably cause the soothing sounds of country haven't truly penetrated your hearts yet. i'll just bide my time ...
and wg84 -- you like country?! aren't you all ghetto or something? weird. we'll have to chill sometime this summer and indulge in the country twang.
